Published The Podcast Episode 18 : Susanne Menge

“I’m not meant to do my life alone.”

This episode of Published is a true Monday-morning, coffee-in-our-jammies kind of conversation.

Susanne and I sat down to talk about writing, community, and what has changed since she committed to writing her book. But somewhere in the middle, the conversation opened into something much bigger. Susanne had some powerful realizations about why writing is working for her now in a way it never has before.

And then I had a breakthrough.

Susanne knew when she committed to writing her book that she didn’t want to do it alone. What she couldn’t have known yet was what the right kind of support would unlock.

“There’s an alchemy that happens that removes the stuckness and increases the capacity for my future self.”

That word—capacity—became one of the most interesting threads of our conversation.

We often assume writing a book requires us to have more capacity. Susanne discovered something different: the process itself was creating capacity.

It’s in the conversations, sharing the writing, exploring what the writing brings up…being witnessed by other writers–then bringing all of it back to the work.

“This community is revealing what is already there. The Authors Collaborative has allowed me to write my own life.”

And…

“I finally understand why writing has never worked for me before. Now it is just flowing out of me.”

Susanne has a catchphrase with us: “Go, Team!”

We laugh every time she says it, but it captures exactly what we’ve created together. A writing team and a community. People who know the work and know one another well enough to recognize what is trying to emerge.

This is one of those intimate, unguarded conversations where you get to listen in while the realizations are happening.

I think that’s my favorite thing about it.

We weren’t talking about a theory of what community can do for a writer. We were recognizing it, right there in the conversation.

In this episode of Published, we talk about the alchemy of that experience and a different standard for writing a book: not the lone writer struggling to make it happen, but an author surrounded by people who help reveal what is already there.

Hi friends,

I don’t think there’s anything cooler than books. And being a writer.

I’m an old school bibliophile. There’s nothing I enjoy more than reading books, talking about books and writing books. I secretly believe I am the recent incarnation from the Library of Alexandria because I’ve got a sacred duty ingrained in me to collect the best books in the world. My personal bookshelf is a collection of what I believe is the most important knowledge we’ve put together in book form so far whether it comes in fiction (The Lord of the Rings, Pride and Prejudice, Gilgamesh and The Dune series) or herbal remedies, neurolinguistic programming, love spells, Buddhist philosophy, Sufi poetry, or Wayne Dyer/ Louise Hay.
I’m not into digital or audio books- I want hard copies I can hold in my hand. I’m ready for everything to go off line although I hope it never does.

I’ve been a writer since I made my first book in kindergarten about a witch and her cats (two topics that still fascinate me) and have since taught creative writing and copywriting (what a combo!) in the outdoors in rural Argentina, to polo players and tennis pros in S. Florida, and to online coaches writing the ads (and full length books) that get their message out there and change lives around the world.

Darlene Turriff and I started The Authors Collaborative a few years ago to turn the lonely art of writing and self-publishing a book into a cooperative activity with all the inspiration, guidance, and friendship we writers need to stay motivated and write amazing books we’re proud of.

I am an internationally bestselling award winning author of 7 books, ghostwriter, copy editor and co-founder of the Authors Collaborative writer’s community.

I love helping coaches, speakers and thought leaders take it up a notch energetically & financially by writing a book. I have helped over 100 coaches write a professional book and I can help you too.

I have cracked the code on the creative process so that you can successfully create the impact you always wanted.
The secret is to just get started.

For now, let’s talk about writing the books that change the world.
